Maybe you've been on my blog once before. Maybe this is you're first time visiting my blog. Maybe it's your one hundredth time on my blog, but whether or not you've been on my blog before you should know why I even have a blog in the first place!
My name is Miah Rae. I am 13 years old and started this blog when I was 12. I've always been interested in animals, ever since I was little. I used to love to catch frogs at a lake I lived near. I liked to pet dogs whenever I saw them, play with cats, hold snakes... you name it and I loved it! Animals were just something I love and I always will!!!
As I grew older I learned more about some of the problems animals are faced with. I learned that my grandmother tries to limit these issues or help them. That sounded like something I would want to do as well - when I was ready.
I remember my 5th birthday when I got my first dog. He was only about 6 months old and a mix between a greyhound and a yellow lab. We named him Reznor. When we went to the local shelter and got him, I was actually disappointed. I wanted a little teenie puppy! Of course, I grew to love him quicly and would have picked him over all the puppies any day!!! He became my best friend, my brother, my pal, my secret-keeper, my dog.
After he turned five we discovered his spine was degenerating and he had arthritis all through it. Our vet actually asked us if he had some major trauma ever. None that we knew of, but we think he may have been abused in his earlier home and that's how he got it. Somehow in the backyard one afternoon he did something that fractured his spine. Over the next couple days he went into a paralyzed state. We tried what we could to prevent the swelling and hopefully keep him from being completely paralyzed, but it didn't work. The doctors decided the best thing to do for him was to put him to sleep. It broke my heart. We did at home, and we alI watched.
(This picture is me and Reznor about an hour before he gave me the last look he would ever give me.)
I knew in that moment I wanted to make a difference. After a few years had passed the idea of a blog came up. I liked the idea and I was ready to make a change. I liked the sound of helping animals be happy, it was perfect. It was how I began my blog: Start The Change.
With this blog I hope to educate young kids, my peers, and adults about the issues animals are faced with. Most importantly, kids are tomorrow's future. I have taken the first steps to make a difference and speak out. Children, and my peers, hold the key to starting the change!
I hope to share stories about over coming the odds, those who need our help, and successes. Plus, all of the fun stuff too!
~Miah Rae
